Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome to Harding School P.T.O.  Our Membership dues for the school year are $5.00 per family.  You might be thinking what does P.T.O. do and how does P.T.O. contribute to my child’s education with only $5.00 membership dues per family?  Let us explain…with the money we raise from fundraisers and membership dues we have helped contribute towards the following:

  • Over $3,000 in mini-grants to our Harding School Teachers to be used towards educational materials for their classrooms
  • Cultural Arts Assemblies throughout the school year
  • Holiday Stockings Containing Books and other items for children of all grades
  • Sponsors the Reading Is Fundamental (R.I.F.) program
  • Sponsors Fall Pumpkin Sale, Winter Wonderland Holiday Shopping Event, Mother’s Day Plant Sale
  • Bi-Annual Carnival for entire school

In addition to your dues we ask that you participate in our school fundraisers.  By purchasing just one item from each of our fundraisers makes a big difference towards our profit.  Our first fundraiser that will start at the end of September is Kids Stuff Coupon Books.  These books have great coupons and will come in handy all year long and are great as holiday gifts.  We also have a Gertrude Hawk Spring Fundraiser and a Yankee Candle Fundraiser that helps pay for all the special events that our sixth graders participate in before moving on to Brearley.  In addition we collect Box Top and Labels For Education and offer contests within the grades with winning classes receiving pizza or ice cream parties.  Last year we raised over $2,000 just by sending in labels that you can find on every day products at home so please collect these labels and send them into school with your child monthly.  Without these fundraisers we could not provide all of the programs listed above.

You may or may not be familiar with being a Room Parent for your child’s class.  In order to become a room parent you must be a P.T.O. member and have gone to three (3) meetings.  Room parents assist teachers with classroom parties, accompany the class on class trips and provide other assistance as requested by the teacher.  This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of your child’s elementary school years!!!

We hope this letter gives you a better understanding of what P.T.O. is about and that you will become a member.  Please send the bottom portion of this letter with your $5.00 dues to the front office.  Please join us at our monthly PTO Meetings at 7:00 pm in the All Purpose Room off the Harding  Cafeteria.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
