Fifth graders are using the FOSS kits to study the sun's changing position in the sky and how it impacts the position and size of shadows.  Students used a compass to orient their papers several times during the day and recorded the shadow of a golf tee.  Morning shadows were long and pointed northwest.  At 1pm the shadows were short and pointed close to north, while later in the day the shadows were again long and pointed northeast.

Students are studying the earth's rotation, day and night, the position of the sun and seasons.
