The ABCs of Reading Levels
The ABCs of Reading Levels

Just when you think that you know all about reading, you READ more that gives you new ideas. Here is the spot that explains the basics of reading.

In First Grade one of the most special times of the day is right after lunch when I read with 2 kids independently. At this time I assess where the child is, work on skills that are tailored for that child, and change books that the child will read repeatedly in order to gain fluency and practice the skills on which we are working. As the year goes on, your child will receive a certificate when he "moves up a notch" as we say in class. In order for you to promote my first love, reading at home, this section will detail what the level that your child is on is all about and what you can do to help. Please click on the level that your child is on to the left for details about each level. The descriptions are derived from the Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project in 2008. Remember that in order to be a great First Grade reader, you have to read, read, READ!!
